Nationalist assault on loyalist culture rejected by Belfast City Council

Belfast City Council correctly rejected the pan-Nationalist attack on Loyalist cultural expression last night, in a rare display of common sense.

However, the outcome of tonight's vote should not mask the Nationalist agenda.

While nationalism likes to talk about shared space, it is apparent that if given the chance, they would restrict any room in our capital city for visible Unionism and loyalism.

Unionists who have been victims of IRA terrorism will regard Sinn Fein's claim to care about public safety with the contempt it deserves.

The ridiculous plans that were rejected last evening threatened to cause great conflict throughout the city.   Rather than fostering communal connections and addressing legitimate concerns about bonfires, the Nationalists' misguided move has simply served to increase already heightened tensions.

Last nights farce, was nothing more than an attempt to incite a reaction from the Loyalists in Belfast. These initiatives have so far been ineffective, which is to the community's credit.
