Organised Unionism has made progress in resisting the Union-destroying Protocol, but the UUP has regrettably lost its course and regressed.
The DUP's language has drastically shifted from an ill-considered start of speaking about "opportunity" inside the Protocol and despising those who wanted to keep opposing it. With them, the problem is now proven via delivery.
The UUP, obsessed with gaining an Alliance vote, has adopted an appeasement language and strangely thinks that the solution to the destruction of our East/West connections is more North/Southery.
Broader loyalism understands the situation and has remained strong, putting many elected unionist leaders to disgrace.
The TUV has been the leader in the fight against the Protocol and will not back down. They were the first to see the Protocol for what it is, as the NewsLetter editorial highlighted on Friday. If we can persuade others to alter their minds, all the better, since this Protocol is so damaging to the Union that it must either go or the Union will fall
Now it's up to us, all the Unionist people of Northern Ireland, to make sure they (the DUP) follow through on their promise. Sir Jeffrey Donaldson's predicted D Day is 50 days away (Nov 1st). Then we'll all know how much DUP words are worth. If an election occurs, as a result, I'm sure the TUV is ready and waiting.
