1000 illegal immigrants landed on UK shores over the weekend despite cold and treacherous weather.

Despite the fact that temperatures had dropped following the end of summer, over 1,000 people boarded small boats and made the perilous journey across the English Channel to the UK in two days.

After ten days of no crossings due to bad weather, at least 40 boats arrived in Britain on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, a French minister has urged the UK to keep its word, claiming that none of the £54 million it promised France to help combat migrant crossings has been paid.

Following his visit to Dunkirk on Saturday, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin stated that "not one euro has been paid."

Priti Patel, the Home Secretary, recently threatened to withhold funding unless more people were prevented from entering the UK.

According to data compiled by the PA news agency, more than 18,000 people have successfully arrived in the UK on small boats since the beginning of the year.

On Friday, a flurry of crossing attempts resulted in 624 people reaching the UK, the fourth-highest daily tally during the current crisis.

On Saturday, at least 491 people, including children, arrived in Britain after making the perilous journey.

The figures were affirmed by the Home Office on Sunday morning, as the Border Force returned to the Channel.

On Sunday, more people were seen having arrived in Dover as crossings continued for the third day in a row.

Thousands of people have continued to cross from France in 2021, despite the UK promising to send millions of pounds to French authorities to help them deal with the crisis.

"We're asking the British to keep their financial promises because we're holding the border for them."Mr Darmanin told the Associated Press on Saturday.

He also urged Britain to take steps to reduce its "attractiveness" to migrants without legal status, without elaborating.

When asked about Mr Darmanin's remarks, Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng told Sky News on Sunday, "Well, all I can say is that we have worked very effectively with the French government so far."

"We’ve had 300 arrests, we’ve worked with them to do that, there have been 65 convictions, and we both accept that there is something like 13,500 crossings that have been prevented through our working together, so it is a good collaborative relationship and we obviously want to improve that."

Ms Patel "needs to come clean" about her strategy for dealing with small boat crossings, according to shadow home secretary Nick Thomas-Symonds.
